Spain SIM usage
No matter what your needs, vodafone Spain
SIMs are easy to use. The SIM cards have MANY fuctions and the users manual
included with each SIM can guide you through the complete aray of services. This
page is meant as a quick reference for the most popular functions of the SIM.
Here we stress the most important
operations you may need to perform during your stay in Spain.

-
- I) Recharging/Topping-up (adding
funds to) Your SIM Card:
- Adding more talk time to your Spain
SIM Card can EASILY be done if your credit runs out or gets low. You may
purchase recharge vouchers (called "cupón de recarga") in many
convenience stores, supermarkets, department stores, gas stations, cellphone
stores, "Tabacos" shops (where they sell cigarettes and stamps),
post offices, etc.... vodafone recharge vouchers are readily available ALL
OVER SPAIN and Europe.
-
- You can
also purchase vodafone Spain recharge vouchers here on our website in the
"products" section on our main menu (the "spanish SIM card
recharge vouchers" sub-section).
-
- If you run completely out of calling
credit, you will still be able to receive incoming calls since they are all
TOTALLY FREE.
-
- You will know that your credit is
running lowsince when you have less than 5 Euros calling credit left, a
voice recording tells you to add more when you proceed to make a call. It is
not necessary to add more immediately, it is just an advisory that your
credit is running low and that you may want to add more soon.

- Step 1 - Scratch
off the grey area on your recharge card ("cupón de recarga"), revealing
a 16 digit PIN code.
- Step 2 - Either...
a) Punch in *133*
+ the PIN code + the "#" key. Then once you have the sequence of
numbers and symbols on the screen such as *133*5555555555555555#,
hit the talk (launch call) key.
You will see "petición aceptada" (request accepted) flash on the
screen and will receive a text message from vodafone informing you that the
credit has been added.
or...
b) Call 133 and follow the directions (operator
directions available in both Spanish and
English).
If you have any doubts, instructions can
be found on the back of recharge vouchers.
Depending on where you purchase top-ups,
you may or may not be given an actual cupon as pictured above. SOme top-up
resellers will print your 16 digit recharge code on a receipt. It is all the
same as long as you get the 16 digit "código de recarga".
PLEASE NOTE:
in THEORY, users in UK can top-up with vodafone UK vouchers by dialing "2345"
from the cell phone. We sayt in "THEORY" because we have had mixed feedback on
this from clients. Some said it worked, others said it did not. Vodafone Spain
also charges a 1 Euro fee for topping up with a Vodafone UK voucher.
For those clients who have a good
control over the Spanish language, the vodafone Spain website offers many ways
to top-up your SIM card, see www.vodafone.es/Vodafone/ParticularesPS/ParticularesPS/0,2603,8581,00.html
for more.

- You may check your credit at any
time. There are 2 options for checking credit:

and then push the send or launch call key. You will receive a text message
indicating your remaining calling credit.
or...
b) Dial 134 and choose a language when
prompted to do so (1 for Spanish, 2 for English) and an automatic voice
recording will indicate your remaining credit.

- Please note that vodafone charges you
0.12€ (12 eurocents) for checking your balance. However, If you register as a
user at https://mivodafone.vodafone.es
, you can sometimes check your balance for free, depending on the special
promotions they offer at different times. (that part of the vodafone Spain
website in Spanish only).

III) Retrieving your voicemail:
- PLEASE NOTE:
all vodafone Spain SIM cards (no matter where you buy them) are preset to
Spanish. To change the voicemail system language to English, you will need
to call vodafone Spain customer service by dialing "123" from your
cellphone here in Spain. Vodafone Spain should have English speaking operators and
technical service so do not hesitate to ask for (DEMAND) one. You will need to have
them change the voicemail system language to English if you do not
understand Spanish. Often times the problem is that the steps you are given
to change the voicemail to English are in Spanish, a catch 22.
-
- If you prefer, we can deliver your
SIM with the voicemail system already in English but this is a paid service
that you must add to your shopping cart after you add your desired SIm card
and before you chek out. You can purchase the pre-set up English language
service by clicking HERE.
To check your voicemail, simply dial 177 from your cell
phone.
Calling your voicemail system when in
Spain is 100% FREE.
To disactivate your voicemail: dial
"#147#" then hit the talk (launch call) key.
